Local Organisations

Silchester Association

The Silchester Association is run for the benefit of the village and its surrounding areas. Anyone living in the village or the area of benefit is automatically a member. The Association organizes various events in the village such as the annual Bonfire Night, The Beer Festival, the Fun Run, talks, walks, parties and other activities. It is run by a committee of volunteers who are elected at the AGM.

The Objectives of the Association are:

  • To encourage all aspects of Silchester village community life
  • To engage with other local groups
  • To foster the rural character and amenities of Silchester Village and Silchester Common
  • To raise and retain sufficient funds to deliver these objectives

Silchester Playground Association

Silchester Playground is supported by a registered charity: the Silchester Playground
Association.

The Playground Association raise funds to provide new equipment and keep the playground in good condition. Over recent years, we have provided funds for new swings for older children, new picnic benches, the monkey climber, the toddler train and the climbing rock. The Playground Association also coordinates a group of around 40 local people, who check the playground daily for litter or damage to ensure that it remains safe and in good condition.
